Smoking-related diseases claim an estimated 430,700
American lives each year

: Directly responsible for 87% of lung cancer cases and causes
most cases of emphysema and chronis bronchitis

: Smoking increases your risk of developing osteoperosis or fragile
bones by reducing blood supply to your bones and slowing the
production of bone-forming cells. Fractures take longer to heal in
smokers and also have a higher rate of complications after
surgery than nonsmokers.

: Each day, 4,800 students (11-17yrs.) smoke their first cigarette.
Nearly 2,000 will become regular smokers-almost 2 million annually.

: Approximately 90% of smokers began before the age of 21.
