Old Dominion University has the S.A.F.E. (Sexual Assault Free Environment) program, coordinated out of the Women's Center, to address the many needs of our students around issues related to sexual assault. S.A.F.E. includes educational presentations, policy and procedures activities, and support services for survivors.

Unfortunately, far too many people are victimized by sexual assault at some point in their lives. This is true throughout society and it is true on every college campus. Nationally, a person is sexually assaulted every 2-3 minutes. In North American colleges, about 1:4 women have been the victim of rape or an attempted rape. 15% of male college students have attempted intercourse with an unwilling female at least once. Old Dominion University has recognized this reality and has devoted staff and other resources to ensure the most appropriate and sensitive response to members of our campus community who experience sexual assault.
